There is only one way to get to heaven!

Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6) NIV

What must you do to be saved?

After sharing the truth that Jesus the Christ (the Son of God) was born, died for our sins on the cross, was resurrected from the grave, and ascended to Heaven to be with the Father; the Apostle Peter was asked by those who came to believe, “What must we do?” (Acts 2:37) NIV.

He replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38) NIV.
[see Acts 2:14-38]
Likewise, to be saved, you must:

  • Recognize your need for forgiveness (Romans3:23 – “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”)
  • Believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, who died for your sins and was resurrected from the grave
  • Confess to others this belief
  • Repent of your sins (humbly acknowledge them, choose to turn away from sinfulness and toward God)
  • Be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins (evidence shows that immersion baptism was practiced in the early church; we should follow this example)
  • Receive the gift of the Holy Spirit

In doing these things you do not earn but rather receive the free gift of grace through Jesus Christ. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8,9) NIV

Then what?

As the truth of your salvation becomes clear and the love God has for you reaches your heart; you should desire to respond to Him in thankfulness and love.

  • Participate in regular worship and praise
  • Pray regularly; to speak to and listen to God
  • Seek to grow in faith and understanding (through fellowship, worship, study)
  • Employ your God-given talents to serve the Kingdom of God
  • Surrender to the Holy Spirit within and be led by Christ’s Lordship
